Life’s a Beach

When you live in Florida, the beach is your second home. If you live the life that most people think Floridians do, you spend nearly all of your time there. The beach has everything: salty air, soft sand, and beautiful views. There’s a downside to going to the beach, though. What you may not know is how the sand and “beachy” air affects your car.

Sand: Rough, Coarse, and Gets Everywhere

Sand is known for its ability to get everywhere. This holds with your car, as well. No matter what make or model, expect that pesky sand to cause irreversible destruction. Grains of sand can eat away at your vehicle’s top coat or get embedded in your windshield, causing a crater, reduced visibility, and windshield wiper ineffectiveness.

Sand can even damage your car under its hood, causing damage to your brakes and air filters. From under your hood to your interior, sand can also cause destruction. Sand can get into the nooks and crannies of your car, becoming nearly impossible to get out. Eventually, this could wear down your car’s interior.

“Beachy” Air Damages Your Car Everywhere

The “beachy” air can also prove treacherous to your car. The salt air can corrode your car’s paint. The ocean spray could lead rust to form on your vehicle. The worst part is that these issues are so subtle, you may not even notice them until the damage is done and irreversible.

The Sun, the Final Frontier

Oh, but who could forget – the sun. The sun can cause damage to your car’s paint, as sunlight can cause any preexisting pores in your car’s paint to expand. The sunshine and heat can cause your interior to become overheated and worn out. If your car’s upholstery is exposed to the sun, it can quickly become worn down. If you want to protect your car from the sunlight, try parking it in a covered garage. Over time, the sunshine and heat can irreversibly damage your vehicle.

How to Prevent the Damages to Your Car

Sand, “beachy” air and the sun can cause considerable damage to your car. However, there are preventative measures you can take to prevent your vehicle. Parking your car in a parking garage could help. Putting up a sunshade help can help to protect the interior of your vehicle. Remembering to get your car detailed after every couple of trips to the beach can also help protect your vehicle. Dusting the sand off yourself before entering your vehicle can also help protect your car’s interior. Remember not to bring or leave sandy or wet towels in your vehicle to prevent future damage!
